President commissions Victory Valley Play Park in Linden

President David Granger on Friday commissioned the Victory Valley Play Park, situated at the Victory Valley Community Centre Ground in Wismar, Linden on Friday.
Equipped with several child-friendly amenities, the play park was delivered at the request of the Victory Valley Community Development Council. The grand opening was marked by a ceremony attended by scores of children and several Region 10 and Government officials.

Delivering the feature address, President Granger said the play park is a symbol of empowerment and the start of many more to come. He said it was a signal of democratic freedom, and noted that Linden, like other towns, has come alive again.
“We are here for several reasons, and the most important reason is that this little park here symbolizes empowerment… I don’t want to see one play park, I want to see a thousand play parks… I see this play park as being the first step in opening more parks in more communities: in Kwakwani, in Ituni, and in other parts of this great Region,” the President noted.
He added that it is a happy day for him, and noted that the handing over of the play park is a step towards the thought of what else can be done. The President said the event is not only refreshing, but would also enliven the community of Victory Valley to think of other beneficial development projects.
The President further encouraged residents of Victory Valley to develop the park and plant trees, so that the community would not just have a play park, but a place of relaxation as well as a tourist attraction.
“And let us make, not only Linden, not only Wismar, but the whole of Region 10 a destination for tourists… So, in weeks and months and years to come, in addition to a play park, let us have a park with animals…” President Granger urged; adding that the park should also encourage the thought of economic activities which would make Linden a tourism hub.
The President also delivered exercise books to children of the community, and was awarded by Linden dance group ‘Is We’.
The play park was officially declared open by the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, after which scores of delighted children flocked the area to sample the amenities. (Utamu Belle)
