The President was accompanied by Social Cohesion Minister Amna Ally. During his address to the more than 300 children drawn from across the Region, he emphasised that Christmas is a time for peace, love and harmony despite differences: “Christ came into the world as a child and we in the Government feel that we must celebrate children. The best thing we can do is make our children happy, because our children have to take over this country and we have to prepare you to do so.”
President Granger announced that Region Two is special to him, and reminded that the 5Bs (Boats, Buses, Bicycles, Books, and Breakfasts) initiative was birthed in the Pomeroon. He explained that during the election campaign, a parent from the area had related the burden he was facing in sending his children to school.
He also used the opportunity to wish the residents of the rice-growing community the best for the season and a productive 2017. Minister Ally said that the Christmas party was a way of making the children feel special during the festive season. She wished the children the best and urged them to continue to strive for excellence in developing Guyana.
Region Two REO, Rupert Hopkinson and MP Hemraj Rajkumar were also in attendance.
