President hosts thanksgiving service in observance of St. John’s Day
As part of St. John’s Day observances on Sunday, President David Granger hosted members of the St. John’s Association of Guyana at the Baridi Benab at State House, where a thanksgiving service was held.
Father Malcolm Rodrigues officiated at the service, which featured singing of hymns, reflection on the life of St. John the Baptist, and recital of special prayers.

In his message on the occasion, President Granger called on citizens, communities, corporations and local democratic organs to support the invaluable work of the St. John’s Association of Guyana.
He recognised the organisation for its more than 85 years of selfless service to the people of Guyana. “The Association’s sustained work in providing ambulatory, disaster response, emergency, first-aid medical care and public health education training and services has been commendable,” the President said. The President, in September 2016, accepted an invitation to become the patron of the Association.
The Guyana Chapter was established in 1933, and has trained thousands in a number of areas, including first aid and disaster preparedness.
