President’s Cup: 9 races on card for Sunday’s meet

Exciting and high-quality horse-racing action will return to the Rising Sun Turf Club on Sunday, September 18 when the President’s Cup horse race takes centre stage,
After a highly-successful Guyana Cup, the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC) has definitely raised the bar of horse racing in Guyana.

All top horses will be gunning for supremacy

A total of nine races are carded for Sunday’s programme. The nine races on the official programme are the L Class (Non-Earners 2022, 5 furlongs, $390,000 total purse); the L Class Open (7 furlongs, $390,000 total purse); the K Class (7 furlongs, $485,000 total purse); the J Class (7 furlongs, $580,000 total purse); the 2 Yrs Old/Guyana Bred Open (5 ½ furlongs, $970,000 total purse); the G Class (7 furlongs, $970,000 total purse); the E Class (7 furlongs, $1,937,000 total purse); the 3 Yrs Old Open (7 furlongs, $1,937,000 total purse) and the President’s Cup (1 mile, $5,812,000 total purse).
This President’s Cup was put on the Cricket Carnival event calendar, and thousands are expected to grace the event with their presence.
The President’s Cup was created by Infanally Habibulla in 1992 in honour of President Dr Cheddi Jagan. As the founder of the Rising Sun Racing Stable, Habibulla was instrumental in the advancement of the competitive sport of horse racing in Guyana. The President’s Cup then grew from strength to strength until the last official race that attracted a patronage of over 5000.
