Primary focus will be on economic cooperation, rebuilding ties – new Foreign Affairs Minister
Newly-appointed Foreign Affairs Minister Hugh Todd on Thursday met with staff members at the Ministry, where he emphasised advancing Guyana’s foreign diplomacy and economic cooperation.
“As the new Minister, I’m excited to meet the new team,” Todd told the Department of Public Information (DPI).
He said the focus would be on transforming the country’s image to encourage economic cooperation.
“Generally, we need to start rebuilding our international image. So, our international diplomacy will be a priority for us; added to that, we will have to work on our economic cooperation,” the Foreign Affairs Minister emphasised.
Minister Todd added that renewing ties with other nations was also important at this time. “We have to rebuild our ties, stimulating investment. We have a lot of plans in store,” he stated, adding that most of what would be taking place at the Foreign Affairs Ministry would be guided by the President himself.
The Minister said he planned to rely on the competent team there at the Ministry, as there was already a structure in place.
Previously, Minister Todd held the position of Assistant Dean in the School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation at Guyana’s premier educational institute, the University of Guyana.
