Prime Minister urges Softball teams to come together

– not to be fragmented
The second edition of the Prime Minister’s T20 Softball Cup did not disappoint. Wrapping up on Sunday at the Everest Cricket Ground on Carifesta Avenue, two finals on the card saw Regal Masters and Ariel Speedboat each successfully defend their title.
After the event, members of the crowd were privileged to meet and greet Prime Minister and Acting President, Moses Nagamootoo, when he shared a light moment with the teams.
In brief remarks, the Prime Minister thanked the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Incorporated, the players and the fans for coming out and supporting.
He said the tournament had a wonderful conclusion, and it has added to the rich tradition of the event.
“I am very pleased that my association with this competition has been vindicated. Last year there seemed to be a feud between Georgetown Softball Group and Floodlights, and I hope that they will be able to work together to build one powerful softball platform in Guyana, rather than being distracted, particularly since you are having entrants from overseas. You do not want to set the image that you are against each other, or you are fragmented,” he went on to state.
The Prime Minister has said his office would continue to be associated with the competition, which he promises to be more fruitful.
He wished patrons of the tournament the best, and expressed hope that players would be successful in their future endeavours; and he said he hopes Guyana would produce a national competitive softball team that in turn would participate in bigger tournaments. (Timothy Jaikarran)
