Prime Minister’s Softball Cup backed to be a success

President of the Ontario Twilight Softball Cricket League, Azeem Khan

President of the Ontario Twilight Softball Cricket League, Azeem Khan, is backing the 2022 Prime Minister’s Softball Cup competition to be successful.
Action in this competition is set to begin on Friday November 10 in Georgetown, Guyana, and be at fever pitch over three consecutive days, with 26 teams competing in the male category and four in the female. The Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc, in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, is staging this sixth edition of the tournament.
“I am happy to be given the opportunity to wish the tournament good luck. I am confident the guys will do a fantastic job again, and good luck to all the participating teams,” Khan, a longstanding softball administrator, has declared.

Two teams from Canada are slated to compete in this tournament. They are: Softball Cricket Canada, which would play in the Masters Category, and Softball Cricket Canada which would feature in the Open Category, round-arm bowling only.
“I want to wish the Canadian teams every success as well,” Khan has said. “I know they will be competing very hard and make us in Canada very proud.” Khan has served as a longstanding President of the functional Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs.
Ten teams will be contesting in the Masters Category in the Prime Minister’s Cup, and the winning team would be pocketing $600,000. For the Legends, eight teams have confirmed their participation, with the champion side claiming a prize of similar worth.
“Great to see all these prizes at stake! That shows the game of softball has grown tremendously, and it is good also for the players, spectators and sponsors; so, I know it will be another spectacle when it comes to softball,” the Canada-based Guyanese Khan has declared.
Other players from Canada are expected to represent various teams at the mega-event. Stalwart softball player Bobby Parasnauth will be leading Regal in the Masters Category, and will be accompanied by another experienced softball cricketer, Aftab Shamsudeen.
Prominent batsman in Canada, and former Guyana youth player, Troy Gobin, is included in another Guyana-based side. Veteran player Hemnarine Chattergoon will be captaining the Canadian Masters, while Ameer Khan is set to be at the helm of another side from Canada.
Azeem Khan has spoken about the recently held Canada Cup 1, played under the auspices of the Ontario Twilight Softball Cricket League. It was another reflection of the steady growth of softball cricket. According to Khan, the next three-day softball extravaganza is set for 2024, and he is calling on teams to again participate.
“It was a terrific tournament we had in Canada, and we saw players coming from Guyana, New York, Florida, Orlando, and participated, and that shows our love for the game. And every major softball tournament, like the Prime Minister’s Softball Cup, is fascinating. I personally encourage players and teams to go at these events, and I must extend an invitation to all of them for our next Canada Cup,” he has said.
