Princes Street man slapped with gun, ammo possession charges

Dion Cornelius, a 43-year-old miner of Princes Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was on Tuesday arraigned before Georgetown Magistrate Rondell Weever on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Cornelius was allegedly found with one .38 revolver and two live .38 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and has been remanded to prison until August 9, 2022.
The Police have said that on the day in question, acting on information received, a party of Police ranks from Regional Division 4’A’ went to a house in Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown. When the Police arrived, Cornelius was observed standing in front of the house, and on seeing the Police, he tried to escape. The Police gave chase, and he was apprehended.
A search carried out on his person unearthed a brown .38 Smith and Wesson revolver, along with two (2) matching live rounds of ammunition in his left side pants waist.
He was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested. He was escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, where he was later charged.
