Prison escapee charged for stealing music cart

One of the 15 men who last year escaped the Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD) prison and who was recently released after serving his sentence found himself before the Court yet, again this time for stealing a music cart.
Teshawn McKenzie, 23, a labourer of Alberttown, Georgetown, appeared before city Magistrate Judy Latchman and denied the charge.
It is alleged that on May 12, 2018 at D’Urban and Inniss Streets, Werk-en-Rust, he stole a music cart valued $768,180, property of Azekiel Jackson.
The prosecution is contending that the two men are known to each other as McKenzie would use Jackson’s cart to work.
On May 12, McKenzie collected the cart, but failed to return it several days later. Jackson attempted to contact him, but that proved futile.
As such, the matter was reported to the Police and the defendant was apprehended on D’Urban Street, Georgetown.
The cart is yet to be returned to the Virtual Complainant (VC) and as such, Police Prosecutor Quain Harris objected to bail being granted.
McKenzie, who was previously convicted for robbery under arms, was remanded to prison. The case will continue on July 16, 2018.
