Project “Cricket Gear For Young And Promising Cricketers In Guyana”: Five Essequibo under-15 players benefit from donations

Three under-15 cricketers from the Cinderella County of Essequibo are each a recipient of one pair of cricket shoes from the project “CRICKET GEAR FOR YOUNG AND PROMISING CRICKETERS IN GUYANA”.

These young, aspiring cricketers were recently selected to represent the county in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter-County Under-15 Tournament, which, after many years, will be played in all three counties.
Anil Beharry, a partner in this initiative, explained that he reached out to the counties through the GCB WhatsApp group, and the newly elected ECB took up the offer to help its young cricketers.
The cricket shoes were presented to the players by Deleep Singh, President of the ECB. Singh thanked Beharry and his partner Kishan Das for the gesture, and said he is certain it would help the players as they prepare for the tournament.
The players, also, have expressed much gratitude, and promised to make full use of the gift. Speaking on behalf of the project, which was conceptualised in partnership with Kishan Das of the USA, Beharry said they are happy to give to young and talented cricketers, and hope it would help them to be better, rounded human beings. He promised to continue to help and develop as many young players as possible in Guyana.
Total cricket-related items collected so far: $40,000 cash, two trophies, eleven pairs of cricket boots, fifteen pairs of batting pads, fifteen bats, nine pairs of batting gloves, eighteen thigh pads, one wicketkeeping pad, one arm guard and four cricket bags.
To date, twenty-eight young players from all three counties of Guyana have already benefited from a junior gear bag, two trophies, nine bats, six pairs of cricket shoes, six pairs of batting pads and six pairs of batting gloves. In addition, the Rose Hall Estate Cricket Club has benefited from a pair of stumps and bails, and two clubs in the Pomeroon area have benefited from two used bats. Pomeroon, Leguan and Wakenam Cricket Committees have also each received one box of red cricket balls.
Cricket-related items, used or new, would be distributed free of cost to young and promising cricketers in Guyana. Skills, discipline and education are important characteristics of the recipients. Talent-spotting is being done across the country, and club leaders will also assist to identify talent.
