PSA on COVID-19 lacks relevant information

Dear Editor,
There is a television public service announcement (PSA) produced by the Public Health Ministry for the Mabaruma Regional Hospital, Region One (Barima-Waini), on the coronavirus.
The presenter, a female doctor who is also in charge of the hospital, is outlining the seriousness of the virus and “the dos and don’ts” residents in particular should observe and adhere to during this critical time.
In the presentation, some precautionary measures are mentioned; however, noticably absent is any mention of hand-washing and the need to sanitise.
Throughout the presentation, the presenter is unmasked.
With the emphasis on masking- up being extolled worldwide, consideration should be given to make the PSA more relevant of the subscribing standards, such as having the presenter appropriately mask-up, so that viewers, particularly the target audience, would understand the importance of taking all necessary precautionary measures.
Further, the presentation should incorporate other precautionary measures now in force, such as hand-washing and sanitising, tips on sneezing and coughing, and other pertinent information.

Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
