PSC urges Guyanese to vote early and go home

– expects political parties to comply with the laws of Guyana

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) is urging Guyanese to go out and cast their votes as early as possible and return home afterwards.

The Private Sector Commission

“The PSC calls on all citizens to vote early and return to your homes, allowing GECOM (the Guyana Elections Commission) and the police to execute their duties professionally and peacefully,” the Private Sector body said in a statement on Sunday ahead of today’s polling day.
This call by the Commission comes as businesses in Georgetown went the extra mile to secure their premises on Sunday. Ply boards were used to cover the glass front of several establishments while iron bars were placed to secure the entrances of some businesses.
Nevertheless, the Private Sector body pointed out in its missive that it remains vigilant over the electoral process and expects GECOM to conduct efficient and transparent elections. This, it added, includes preparation for polls, the voting process, the regional tabulation process and the expeditious declaration of accurate final results.
“The PSC expects all political parties to comply with the laws of Guyana, respect and accept the final declaration of the results by GECOM and facilitate the expeditious and unhindered swearing-in of the next President of the Republic of Guyana,” the Commission said on Sunday.
It went on to reiterate its commitment to working as a true developmental partner with the democratically elected Government of Guyana, “as together we confront and face all the challenges and opportunities over the next (five) years, focusing on the growth and development of every single man, woman and child in this country.”
The PSC is among 13 local organisations that will be observing today’s elections day activities and the process leading up to the declaration of final results.
The other local observer missions include Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU); Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); American Chambers of Guyana (AmCham Guyana); The Bar Association; Transparency Institute Guyana (TIGI); Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC); Youth Challenge Guyana; Ebenezer Congregational Church Foundation; Cuffy 250 and the ABC diplomatic community – United States of America (USA), British High Commission and the Canadian High Commission.
