Publishing history created with biographies of Guyanese couple who became presidents

Jamaican publisher Ian Randle believes that he is set to create publishing history this year.
Less than a year ago, the company he established over three decades ago published the biography of British Guyana’s first premier, and later President of Guyana, Dr Cheddi Jagan, Cheddi Jagan And The Cold World, 1946 to 1992, by Dr Clem Seecharan.
This year, Ian Randle Publishers Ltd, is set to publish what is said to be “a glowing biography” of Dr Jagan’s wife, and Guyana’s only female head of state, the former President Janet Jagan, A Biography of Janet Jagan by Professor Patricia Mohammed.
That biography is set to be on bookshelves by next October, which is her birth anniversary, publisher Ian Randle revealed in an exclusive interview with Guyana Times.
“Less than a year ago, we published the biography of Dr Cheddi Jagan…I know of no precedent in which one publisher, in the course of a year, had published the biographies of a husband and wife, who were both elected presidents of their countries.
“I have visions of Dr Cheddi and Janet Jagan coming together in a new life, through their biographies, on a bookshelf; inseparable in life, inseparable in death and in print.”
Born on March 22, 1918, Dr Cheddi Jagan became British Guiana’s first premier from 1961 to 1964. He was elected President of Guyana in October 9, 1992, until his death on March 6, 1997.
His wife, Janet Rosenberg Jagan, was born on October 20, 1920. She became the sixth President of Guyana on December 19, 1997, until August 11, 1999.
She passed away on March 28, 2009.
