The 17th edition of Pushpanjali will be held this evening at the Indian Monument Garden, Camp and Church Streets, Georgetown, as Guyana celebrates the 179th anniversary of East Indian arrival to Guyana.
The evening is promoted by the Indian Commemoration Trust and is expected to be an evening of commemoration, entertainment and the presentation of awards. Apart from the packed cultural presentation, Dr Petamber Persaud will be launching another book while several of his other books will be on exhibition and sale.
There will also be a display of Indian artefacts and literature depicting the arrival of the first group of East Indians to Guyana 179 years ago. To satisfy your taste buds, there will be Indian delicacies on sale.
The cultural segment will consist of dances by Nadira and Indranie Shah Dance Troupe, Kiran Mattai and the Indian Cultural Centre. The audience will be treated to several high quality renditions of songs to be performed by Pandit Seeraj, Vidya Ram, Kampta Persaud, Arijit Singh, Anandmay Biayda and Collin Freeman.
The welcoming is expected to be done by Chairman of the Indian Commemoration Trust, Dr Yesu Persaud while a message will be delivered by Acting High Commissioner, Mr Bhutai and the featured address will be done by Nirvana Persaud-Chandranauth, CEO National Trust of Guyana. Admission is free.
