Employees at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) head office on Camp Street, Georgetown were briefly evacuated just after 14:00h on Wednesday when a fire alarm sounded due to a fire in the risk management department.
According to officials on the scene, the fire started following an electrical fluctuation and was quickly detected and reported. Firefighters arrived on the scene promptly and managed to contain and extinguish the fire.
There were no injuries reported, and the building sustained minimal damage. The GRA has assured the public that operations will resume today following a safety inspection.
GRA’s head office is a 6-storey building, which houses some 700 staff members. (G9)
