Race for quarterfinal space is on tonight at Leonora
Stag Nations Cup KO Football
Top city trio; Western Tigers, Police, Santos and Riddim Squad have already booked their quarter final spots, and have now left the other associations competing in the STAG Nations Cup knock-out football championship gunning to ensure that they secure one of the four remaining quarter final slots when play continues this evening at the Leonora Track and Field Facility, West Coast Demerara.
The West Side will have two opportunities to snatch a quarter final berth with Georgetown having a fifth and East Demerara one also.
Uitvlugt Warriors, West Demerara’s flagship side, coached by former national defender Orville Bobb will fancy their chances against Northern Rangers which had hammered another West Dem. side at the same venue on Friday last 7-0.
Foremost in the minds of the Uitvlugt players would be revenge as they would not want to succumb to the Rangers so the home team would be unleashing a cadre of young and hungry players who will be taking the attack to Northern Rangers from the first whistle.
Veteran forward Lerone Jacobs who still has the flair and ability to annihilate any defence will lead the charge for Uitvlugt and will find able support from the Duke brothers, Keyon and Kevin, Jamal Petty, Carisle Carryol, Alex Moore, Denzil Smith, Daniel Floyd, Jermaine Accra, Ryan Andrews, Kevin Fraser and goalkeepers, Travis Fraser and Shawn Browel.
Northern Rangers had secured their goals in the win against Young Achievers from Steven Sankar (a double), Telfon Daley, Devon Caesar, Stephon Reynolds, Colin Clark and Sunil Logan and they would be the players leading the quest for another victory tonight.
As hungry as either team would be, only one will walk away victors; who would that be is left to be seen after the final whistle tonight.
The curtain raiser would be equally exciting between two sides that does not know anything if at all about each other. Pouderoyen though, would start with the advantage of playing at home against one of the leading teams from East Demerara which would be playing at this venue for the first time.
Pouderoyen, a side that has carried the flag of West Demerara over the years and a sturdy opponent would relish the chance of a place in the final eight but first would have to get past Mahaica Determinators. To achieve this aim, the home team would be banking on the likes of the Harding brothers, Anthony and Ashley, Dwayne St. Kitts, Morgan Denny, Kayode King, Marvin Frank, Denzil Boyce, Quessey Alleyne, Esan Nelson and Sherwin Bernard who will be their last pillar of defence.
To deliver a win and a place in the quarter finals, Mahaica will turn to the Roberts brothers, Kirk and Azumah, the Abel brothers, Eion and Ewart, Shameer Nazir, Michael Amsterdam, Travis Charles, Devon Charles, Curtley Adams, Devon Harris, Terrance Phillips, Cordell Haywood, Andrew Williams, Royden Ramsey, Samuel Vandyke, Neil Lynton, Kepler Wilson, Elton Amsterdam and Sylvester Richardson.
Kick off time is 18:00h.
