Race for the tape heats up off the track

The days are quickly counting down to the most anticipated horse race event of the season and the action off-track is heating up just as much as three champion horses are getting ready for neck and neck intensity over 1200M. Princess She is Not, Just Call me Boss and Storm Bird will be bursting through the starting gates to outrun each other in the feature race of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee’s (JJTRC) Race of Champions this Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club.
Running out of the Sheriff Racing Stable is Princess She is Not who was once known as the fastest USA bred filly in Guyana. As she returns to track, owner Zaheer Sheriff was confident in stating that “The Princess is returning to retrieve her crown.”

Fresh off a moral boosting win in last Sunday’s feature race at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Just Call Me Boss out of the Jagdeo Racing Stables who has been sprinting faster over the last 400M is certainly a front runner for the top prize. An upbeat Trainer Therbhuwan Jagdeo said that his horse is fitter than ever at the moment and is in good form heading to the race of champions. He also stated that, “the distance of 1200M rather than the last run at Rising Sun Turf club that was 1600M will be a better distance for his horse this time around.”
Another champion from last Sunday is Storm Bird who won by 10 clear lengths to blow away the competition in the H1 and Lower race. Covering a distance of 1200M, Storm Bird who is out of the Inshanali Bacchus Racing Stables, crossed the line in an amazing time of one minute and 10 seconds (1:10) to shatter her own record of 1m:11.5secs. It was more than seven years since Port Mourant saw a race finishing in 1m:10secs. However, it’s a situation of same distance, different track and whether she can she do it again. It’s left to be seen this Sunday when defending champion Vera’s Finally will be hard-pressed to retain her crown.
The Race of Champions is collaboration between JJTRC and Rising Sun Turf Club which will feature the country’s leading horses who were winners in previous races competing to be crowned overall champion in eight events. The feature race is for horses classified C and Lower covering a distance of 1200M for a top prize of $1,000,000.
The first race is set for 13:00h and admission is $1,000.
