Racquet Hall on course for completion next month – Ramson Jr

Dubbed the “Racquet Hall”, a new addition to the National Racquet Centre compound on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown may soon open its doors, according to Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr.
The new building will cater to the disciplines of badminton and table tennis, as was announced by the Minister back in October 2022.
Sharing an update on its construction during a recent event, Ramson Jr admitted that while there is no definite commissioning date as yet, the venue will be ready next month.
The Sport Minister shared with media operatives, “As far as the Racquet Hall is concerned though, we are very close to opening now. We’ve just got some minor thing we want to do, just to make sure that it’s exactly the way that we want it. So, we’re aiming to open that, let’s say at the end of July.”
“By the third, we’re aiming to open Anna Regina, and by the end of July, we’re aiming to open the Racquet Hall, but I’m not going to set a date firmly on that until we know that these minor things that need to be done are completed,” he went on to state.

Ramson Jr was open about the hurdles they encountered with the building, disclosing the challenges that have hindered its completion.
“They had some small leaks along the way, which were difficult to identify because of the radiant barriers that we put on the roof. And so, that effectively covers the entire bottom part of the roof, so it’s hard to identify where the leaks were coming from,” Ramson Jr divulged.
“So, we want to make sure things like that get solved before we open.”
The Sport Minister went on to discuss the new racquet hall’s features, which was constructed to international standards.
“The guys who were installing the track, they were the ones who installed the flooring. So, the flooring is world-class flooring,” the Minister explained. “The folks who are playing there, especially the badminton players, they’re really going to get a benefit from that because it’s that international type of flooring that we put there.”
“And all of the indoor facilities, we’re aiming to have that multipurpose flooring there too,” Ramson Jr further noted.
The addition of the racquet hall is likely to ease the traffic at the National Gymnasium, which currently houses both badminton and table tennis amongst several other disciplines. The National Racquet Centre, on the other hand, currently houses facilities for lawn tennis and squash.
