Raffik Construction, Asphalt and T/R Construction on board BCB 2021 cricket season
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) continues to attract sponsorship for its cricket tournaments. The vibrant cricket board has plans to hosts about 40 tournaments at the different levels, and has already successfully completed 18 finals over the last two months. All of the tournaments are been played under the Government of Guyana COVID-19 guidelines.
On Thursday last, the BCB officially launched another two tournaments for teams in the Lower/Central Corentyne area. The first was the 4th edition of the Raffik Construction 100 balls second division tournament. The second is the Premium Asphalt and TR Construction 20/20 second division tournament.

Both tournaments would be played among teams in the Lower Corentyne area, and they form part of the BCB internal zone programme. BCB President Hilbert Foster has committed the board to organising a minimum of three tournaments every year for each of the five zones – West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower/Central Corentyne, Upper Corentyne and Berbice River.
Rose Hall Town Bakewell are defending champions of the Raffik Cup, while Rose Hall Town Tigers are defending champions of the Premium Asphalt/TR Construction 20/20 title. The BCB President expressed gratitude to both sponsors for coming on board, and reassured them that both tournaments would be well organised and would be completed within three months, once the weather does not intervene.
He spoke of the importance of second division cricket in the county, as it allows the younger players to play with more seasoned ones, while providing opportunities to the older players to still be involved in the game.
Close to 100 clubs in the county play at the second division level in Berbice, with 24 in the Lower/Central Corentyne area.
Among the clubs slated to play in the two tournaments are Kennard Memorial, Kildonan, Ramnarine Memorial, Whim, Tain Block Four, Port Mourant, Hampshire, Sand Reef, Fyrish, Courtland, Chesney, No I Road, Belvedere United, Nigg Intruders, Jai Hind, and Albion Open.

Berbice cricket powerhouses Albion and the RHTY&SC would be debarred from the 20/20 tournament, but would play in the Raffik Construction 100 balls tournament. Foster disclosed that this is part of the effort to allow smaller clubs opportunity to win a BCB title.
Teams would be allowed to play two first division players per match, while any player below the age of 23 would not be considered a first division player.
All teams are also warned that all of their players have to be attired in whites, and only Berbicians would be allowed to play in the tournaments.
Additionally, teams and players are expected to follow the COVID-19 guidelines laid down by the BCB, or they would face disciplinary actions.
