Essequibo was transformed into a showcase of strength, discipline and athletic excellence as bodybuilding athletes from across Guyana converged for the One Guyana Essequibo Classic, staged with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS).

Eighteen competitors took to the stage, each displaying months of dedication, conditioning and preparation before an enthusiastic audience. The event was further enhanced by the presence of special guests, including reigning Mr Guyana Colin Chesney, Guyana’s newest Pro Card holder Roley Chandler and current Wellness Champion Melitha Anderson.
Viji Raheem emerged as the Overall Champion, while Qurian Spellen captured the Miss Essequibo title and Emmerson Bert was crowned Mr Essequibo. Romelton Siland also entertained the audience with a brief fitness and fit-model showcase, drawing attention with his impressive physique and stage presence.
The novelty events added another dimension to the programme, with one participant completing 103 push-ups in one minute, while the deadlift challenge reached an impressive 558 pounds. The female squat competition was equally competitive, with the eventual winner completing 59 repetitions in one minute.
President Videsh Sookram served as master of ceremonies and guided the programme with energy and purpose. The event also benefited from seamless musical entertainment, while the judging panel of Mr Best, Mrs Ramsammy and Mrs Sookram was commended for its professionalism and fairness.
Medals and trophies were presented by Bikini Champions Sabita Stevenson and Errol Teekaram, along with Intiaz Satar, a member of the executive body, and Erik Satar, who played an important role in stage management and coordination.
The Essequibo Classic ultimately proved to be more than a bodybuilding competition, bringing together athletes, supporters, and members of the wider community in a celebration of discipline, determination and national pride. With continued support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the event highlighted the potential for sporting talent to emerge from every region of Guyana through consistency, dedication, and hard work.
