Rain curtails Jaguars’ ascendency

Consistent rain at the National Stadium, Providence on Saturday evening hampered the Guyana Jaguars quest for total control on day two of their day/night match against Barbados Pride in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL) Digicel Regional 4-day competition.shai-hope-goes-through-the-off-side-early-in-his-innings
The match began with Pride chasing the Jaguars first innings total of 311 but the regular down pours meant up to press time the visitors reached 48-2 at tea after 18 overs were bowled. At the crease were Test player Shai Hope on 20 and Shamarh Brooks on 10. Keon Joseph (1-13) and Raymon Reifer (1-20) were the men to make inroads into the Pride’s batting.keon-joseph-had-a-good-opening-spell-with-the-new-pink-cherry
A late afternoon down pour meant play started 16:30 hrs instead of the usual 15:00 hrs.
When the action began, the medium-pace of Reifer had the in-form Allyene caught by a diving Rajendra Chandrika at point for eight.
The pace of Joseph then brought the demise of captain Kraigg Braithwaite (06) when he played an uncharacteristic pull which he gloved behind to wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble and Pride were now 17-2.
Hope, who struck two boundaries in his innings thus far along with Brooks ensured no more wickets fell, as another downpour came at 18:30 hrs, at which point no play was possible even at 20:30 hrs.
On day one, Jaguars reached their total on the back of an even century by Shivnarine Chanderpaul and supporting knocks by Shimron Hetmyer (60) Vishaul Singh (40), Gudakesh Motie (36 not out) and Reifer (35).
The third’s day play will begin today at 14:30 hrs with Pride still 263 runs away from securing first innings points and eight wickets remaining.
