Rain delays runoff

– 1,000 free kites promised for 2nd leg

Due to the inclement weather in Berbice, the start of the first-ever Triple Crown has been pushed back.
The first leg which was initially scheduled for this Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club will now be held on March 4 at the same venue.
The delay is necessary after the recent rain across the country’s coast has left the track short of preparation.

Lots of horses have been entered and are eager for race days

The second leg will now take place on Easter Sunday, April 1 at the Port Mourant Turf Club while the third and final stage will see the action returning to Rising Sun on April 29.
For the setback, the organizers – the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee will distribute 1000 kites at no cost to the first 1000 turfites to enter the Port Mourant Turf Club ground on Easter Sunday for the second leg.
Meanwhile, the grand drawing of the mega raffle is also pushed back to the final leg on April 29 where the winners of the Nissan Tida motorcar and other top prizes will be known.
To be crowned the Triple Crown Champion, a horse must win at all three events. Overall, the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee is injecting over $20M in cash and prizes across the three events.
There are seven events carded for the day with the feature ‘C’ Class and Lower covering a distance of 1200m for a top prize of $1,000,000.
The other races are ‘F’ Class and Lower and the ‘E’ Class Non-Earners (last Start); three-year old Guyana Bred; ‘H1’ and Lower; ‘J&K’ and Lower; and the ‘L’ and Lower all running for 1200m except the ‘K’ Class Non-Earners (last start) who are set to cover a distance of 1100m.
