Rain forces GCB to abandon Women’s T20 Inter-County tournament
Torrential rains have inevitably forced abandonment of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB’s) 2018 Senior Female Inter-County T20 Tournament without a game being played.
The three respective matches which were originally set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Everest Ground were subsequently abandoned following an inspection of the ground. The decision was made on Saturday, May 12, on the day of the second-round match between Berbice and Essequibo.
After their inspection, match officials deemed conditions unsuitable for play for the remainder of the tournament. Berbice, as a result, have unanimously swept both Inter-County series, having retained their 50-Over title by beating Demerara, and their T20 title by virtue of the abandonment.
The inclement weather had affected a number of GCB games in recent weeks, but it has taken a significant toll on venues across the city over the last week. Meanwhile, the GCB have confirmed that selectors will now shortlist 24 ladies for encampment, following the cancellation of the T20 series.
