Rain has final say in Windies Women–Pakistan clash

Rain played spoil-sport in Dublin, Ireland, on Wednesday, washing out the West Indies Women’s final game in the Tri-Nation series against hosts Ireland and Pakistan.
The 11:00h start to Wednesday’s match between the Maroon Women and Pakistan was pushed back due to an initial rain delay prior to the toss. When things finally got underway over an hour later, the West Indies had won the toss, electing to bowl first.

Zaida James struck early, removing Muneeba Ali for four in the very first over. In the following over, Chinelle Henry sent Gull Feroza back to the dugout for 10, setting the tone for the remainder of the innings.
The Pakistan women never really found their footing, as the Windies bowlers ensured a constant flow of wickets, preventing Pakistan’s small partnerships from blossoming. However, rain would rear its ugly head again with Pakistan on 111-7 in 16.5 overs, and after persisting for over another hour, the no-result conclusion was eventually forced.
Aliya Riaz top-scored with 24 from 23 deliveries, finding the boundary thrice, while Captain Fatima Sana was the next best batter with a run-a-ball 21. Henry snared 2-13 from two overs, and Guyana’s Ashmini Munisar also had tidy figures, claiming 2-15 from three overs.
The West Indies Women will have to await the result of today’s clash between Ireland and Pakistan to determine the Tri-Nation series winner. The West Indies Women racked up back-to-back wins against Ireland (by eight wickets) and Pakistan (by 25 runs) over the weekend, before suffering a one-run loss to Ireland (DLS method) on Monday.
With Ireland defeating Pakistan by seven wickets on Sunday, the hosts can wrap up the series win with a victory over the same opposition today. On the other hand, the West Indies’ women will be hoping that Pakistan triumphs today in order to walk away with the series win.
