Rain impedes 1st round commencement

GCB/Hand-in-Hand U-19 Inter-County 50-Over…

The first round of the 2017 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Hand-in-Hand Under-19 Inter- County 50-Over tournament has been washed out without a ball being bowled.
Monday’s intermittent weather had held out hope for a different outcome — such wonderful sunshine being available over the weekend, and all teams and their players being hyped and ready for the action, as they looked forward to competing against each other.
This GCB/HIH Under-19 Inter-County tournament has great significance, it being used respectively to earmark and prepare players for national selection and regional duty.
Over at Everest, the match between Berbice and Essequibo was abandoned at 12:55h without a ball being bowled; while the match scheduled for Eve Leary, wherein Demerara opposed the Select U-17 team, was abandoned at 13:10 h, also without a ball being bowled. Each of the involved teams was awarded 2 points for their first round abandoned match.
The second round of matches in the tournament is scheduled for Wednesday at the Police Sports Club Ground and at the National Stadium at Providence respectively. The match at the Police Ground, set to commence at 09:30 hours, will feature Essequibo against the Select U-17 team;                                          while the match at the National Stadium will start at 09:00 hours and would involve Berbice competing against Demerara.
The third round of matches will be played on Thursday, June 1; while the Finals will be played on June 2 at the National Stadium at Providence.
