Ramadan Village is a tangible manifestation of the One Guyana family

Dear Editor,
In the Quran Chapter 49, verse 13, it reads, “O mankind! Verily, we have created you all out of a male and a female, .and have made you into nations and tribes, so that you might come to know one another. Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of God is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him. Behold, God is all-knowing, all-aware.”
The noble guest, the month of Ramadan is nigh, and on Sunday the 15th February we witnessed yet another Launch of the Ramadan Village, the brainchild of the dynamic and visionary Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
In his usual peerless style, His Excellency expounded on the notion of consciousness or Taqwa as it is referred to in Islamic terminology in a manner that would have brought a smile to any scholar of Islam present there.
Every weekend during the holy month of Ramadan, the lawns of the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) becomes a space that buzzes with spiritual activity and communal celebration, marked by fasting, nightly prayers, and the strengthening of community bonds. This is a shared and safe space where every nationality, every ethnicity and every religion descend to experience a true Guyanese Ramadan.
Ramadan has the power to transform us all. Fasting is a comprehensive act of worship that encompasses the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of a person’s life. The Ramadan village as envisioned by His Excellency compliments this and further provides another platform to unite our nation under the One Guyana Family.

Regards,
Safraaz Ahmad
