Priyanna Ramdhani in action
Priyanna Ramdhani made great representation for Guyana Badminton, finishing the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) Open International tournament on a high.
After four appearances by Guyanese in the quarterfinals of this top class competition, in which they had been pitted against some of the best players from 23 countries around the world, Ramdhani has emerged the lone Guyanese player to progress through the stages and earn a bronze medal in the Ladies’ Doubles category.
Having made it to the semifinals, a loss at this stage meant that the 17-year- old Guyanese would have to settle for the bronze.
Pairing up with Barbados’ Sabrina Scott for the Ladies Doubles, the Guyanese/Bajan pair took on Barbados’ Monyata Riviera and Tamisha Williams in a thrilling three setter. The Full Bajan pair ended up taking the win after securing two sets, 21-17, 12-21, 12-21.
With this bronze medal, the Guyanese contingent that competed at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium in Barbados have taken their CAREBACO Senior and Junior medals count to 4 gold and three bronze.
Additionally, Priyanna Ramdhani is the reigning triple-crown Junior champion, having won the Ladies Singles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories in the Junior competition.
