A number of star-studded showdowns headlined the final day of the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) Trophy Stall Annual Christmas Doubles’ tournament on Friday evening.
Hosted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, the Trophy Stall tournament was the first to be held by the GBA following the death of late Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) President Gokarn Ramdhani, and it will close out the Association’s 2021 calendar of activities.
Over the last week, players were involved in intense Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles games. The Men’s Doubles final was filled with some of Guyana’s best international prospects on both sides of the court. Eventually, Narayan Ramdhani & Jonathan Mangra overcame the pair of Akili Haynes & Tyrese Jeffrey in a 21-12, 21-18, two-set encounter.
Priyanna Ramdhani followed in her brother’s footsteps, as she paired up with Shivannie Persaud to take gold in the Women’s Doubles event. However, it took two sets, 21-18, 21-13, for the pair to defeat Anna Perreira & Christina Kumar.
Meanwhile, the younger Ramdhani sibling returned to cop a victory in the Mixed Doubles division, this time alongside Akili Haynes. The pair, who recently tested their skills at the Pan American Junior Games, outplayed Narayan Ramdhani and Mishka Beharry to win the division final 21-13, 21-14.
There were also consolation finals for the divisions, which saw Mahender Sharma & Jason Stephney defeating Matthew Klautky & Matthew Singh in the Men’s Doubles consolation final 21-10, 21-13.
For the Mixed doubles, Tyrese Jeffrey & Christina Kumar overcame Easa Sanichara & Priyanka Shivnauth, 21-17, 21-18.
