Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan on Friday expressed confidence in the nominees for the post of head of the Police Service Commission put forward by the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments.
“Excellent nominations! I support them! It’s a presidential appointment, so the President… In view of the fact that they have been now recommended as appointees by the Parliamentary Committee, (their names) will go to the President for him to make the final pronouncement. That will be very early, I think,” Ramjattan said in a brief comment to reporters.
Former Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Slowe has been nominated to head the Police Service Commission; and retired Assistant Commissioner Clinton Conway and retired Woman Assistant Commissioners Vesta Adams and Claire Jarvis have been recommended to be part of the PSC. The Association of Former Members of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Police Association made these nominations.
Slowe had chaired the Commission of Inquiry into the alleged plot to assassinate the President last year.
The PSC nominee had in fact served on the coalition’s campaign team in the last General Election held in May 2015.
