Ramraj bags 4-7 to hand Demerara victory

Bel Air Rubis Inter-County Under-17 Tournament…

The action commenced in the Bel Air Rubis Inter-County Under-17 tournament with Demerara prevailing over Berbice in a low-scoring affair.
Batting first, Berbice were in a heap of trouble, as they found themselves at 7-2 with openers Ricardo Ramdihol and Collis Noble both dismissed respectively off the bowling of Trevon Charles and Jagdesh Dowlatram.

It was now up to Marvan Prashad to play a captain’s knock to lift his team out of trouble, but Demerara were able to keep Berbice on a tight leash.
Sarwan Chaitnarine came to the crease but offered no support to Prashad, soaking up 12 balls before departing for a duck when he was dismissed by Dowlatram to add more pressure on the visitors.
After Prashad departed for 31, not much support was offered, with the second highest score – 13 — coming from Zeynul Ramsammy.
Berbice crumbled after Ramsammy fell, as Chanderpaul Ramraj and Andre Seepersaud ripped through the batting lineup to bamboozle the visitors, leaving them at 66 all out in 29.1 overs.
Chanderpaul Ramraj led the bowling attack with 4-7, while Andre Seepersaud claimed 3-6. Jagdesh Dowlatram bagged 2-5, and Charles had 1-12.
Needing a simple target of 67 for victory off 300 balls, Demerara batted patiently, with the opening pair of Ronaldo Mohamed and Matthew Nandu slowly chipping away at the total. When Nandu was clean bowled by Jonathan Rampersaud for 11, Mohamed played an anchor-like innings to score and unbeaten 11 from 85 balls. Andre Seepersaud top scored with 31 not out, as Demerara reached 67-1 in 28 overs to claim the first points of the competition.
