Ramson commits to basketball hoops, other equipment for Buxton

Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr was a part of a ministerial team conducting an outreach in the community of Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Monday when he passionately committed to assisting the community with its sporting needs.
Basketball has grown popular in the village, with one attendee sharing that it has become a Sunday morning event there, but the hoops are not up to standard.
As such, the community got the on-the-spot commitment from Ramson Jr, that he would deliver new, state-of the-art hoops within the day.
“Today, I’m going to make another commitment because you’re saying that you have a hundred players who play here and you don’t have any hoops,” Ramson Jr began.
“Just last Sunday, we were in Ithaca and we installed, for the first time, Slam-branded basketball hoops in any community across this country. Today, and just to show you that we mean business, today I’m going to give you that commitment that within 30 minutes, those hoops are going to be here,” the Sport Minister promised.
Ramson Jr went further, pledging the handing over of heavy-duty equipment, that would help to keep other parts of the community ground in pristine condition.
“My second commitment that I’m going to make now, within 30 minutes, we’re also going to deliver a driving tractor lawn mower and brush cutter,” Ramson Jr declared, being met with cheers from the crowd.
Much like the event in Ithaca, West Coast Berbice, Ramson put forward the utilisation of the Volunteer Apprenticeship Community Support programme in order to have the hoops installed. The programme seeks to get community members involved in the rehabilitation and maintenance of their public spaces.
Ramson explained, “In order to put up these hoops, they have to be cast into the ground, etc. So, within two weeks, our team at the Ministry and your team of basketball players, we’re going to work on a community programme, where we’re going to install these hoops together.”
“Building together is an example, and a priority, of the commitment that President [Irfaan] Ali has made to this country,” he concluded.
