Ramson Jr optimistic about developmental work at city venues

A glimpse of Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr; Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle and National Sports Commission Chairman Kashif Muhammad assessing work at the National Gymnasium

Coming out of the coronavirus pandemic, sport, especially in the Georgetown area, should not be short of top-quality facilities, as administrators are working to improve several venues around the capital city.
Giving an update on the facilities, which include the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue; the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue; the Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue and the Colgrain pool on Camp Street, Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr shared that he was quite optimistic about the improvements.
“We have some pretty significant projects going on.
“It’s getting there, it’s definitely getting there. You’ve got a couple more things to be done.”
Going into more detail, the Sport Minister gave a glimpse of what he hopes to achieve for the venues and by extension, the development of sport.
“At the Racquet Centre – I’m hoping, rain has been a little difficult with us, our timeline is unusually delayed, but we’re hoping that within another couple of months we’ll be in a strong position to open the facility,” Ramson Jr disclosed during a walkabout, around some of the facilities on Friday last.
“On this one (the Gymnasium), we’ve just started our new basketball court here, with our new washroom/shower, changing facility – outdoor facility,” he highlighted.
“That’s important for what the multipurpose intention, objective, plan for the Gymnasium [is].”
“It is intended that this Gymnasium turns into a multipurpose sporting facility, that people from all around Georgetown can come and have a safe space for them to come and be able to play many sports at the same time, day and night,” the Minister explained.
About the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the Minister revealed, “We have a couple of projects there as well, one has started, one is about to start.”
“And we have quite a few projects that are going on for Colgrain,” he added.
