Ramson Jr seeks to inspire Amazon Warriors ahead of title defence

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., on Friday evening ventured to the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara to witness a Guyana Amazon warriors (GAW) practice session; as the team prepares for the upcoming Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season.
While interacting with the encamped players, Ramson Jr. had some words of encouragement for the local franchise as they embark on their title defense; noting that they have Guyana’s complete support.
“Cricket is like a religion for us and I wanted to come and express to you how important your job here with us is. The entire country is behind you,” The Sport Minister initially stated.

Ramson jr. went on to urge the team, “I can’t tell you how important this season is, for us to repeat. First of all, we were always gonna get the jokes about ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’, always making it to the finals and not gonna be able to win but now that you’ve won, you’re walking around with a bullseye on your back because all of the other teams, they want what you have, which is the championship. You’ve got to earn that back, that’s why when it comes to the season starting, all the egos, all the personal differences, anything that is gonna constrain, restrict or inhibit the ability to unite as a collective and deliver the victory should end.”
“Last year, you could see that. From the press conference I had with your captain, from every single time that we had an engagement and we were looking at you, we could see, there was a completely different change I attitude in the team. We want to see that continue, it’s the only way you’re going to win. You’re not going to be able to do this individually and they’ll be days when some of your biggest stars, they’re not going to have great days. Everybody’s gotta rally behind those persons.”
The Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) will begin their Republic Bank Caribbean premier League (CPL) campaign this Friday, August 30 in Antigua, as they take on the hosts, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at the Sir Viv Richard Stadium from 19:00hrs.
