Home News RDC driver arrested for raping Rupununi girl
Police have launched an investigation and arrested a driver attached to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in the Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), after he allegedly raped a teen girl.
This was confirmed by Regional Commander of Region Nine Rapheal Rose on Friday.
Guyana Times understands that sometime last week the man reportedly offered to drop girl, who is 14 years old, a drop on his motorcycle. At the time, the teen girl was walking home when he rode up and offered to take her home.
During their journey along the public road, the man reportedly took another route into a bushy area where he brought his motorcycle to a halt and asked the teen to have sexual intercourse with him.
The teen girl refused but he reportedly raped her.
It was reported that passers-by heard the girl screaming and went to her rescue. However, by the time they got to the area the man had ridden away from the scene.
A report was subsequently made to the Police and the suspect was arrested.
Only on Thursday officials of the Guyana Police Force said they are preparing a file to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to seek legal advice after a 23-year-old man was accused of sexually and physically assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
The victim and suspect are known to each other and the alleged assault reportedly occurred on different occasions this month.
The 23-year-old, who resides in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), was arrested recently and remains in Police custody.
Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
