The training session is meant to maintain fitness and create chemistry between the players so that they will be a fit and cohesive unit.
Head coach of the Golden Jaguars, Jamaal Shabazz noted that more home based players have been selected for the friendly match because he intends to widen the pool of national players, giving opportunities to those who may not have had a chance before to showcase their skill at the national level.
“We want to give playing time to some of the players who have not played for the national team in the previous games. We have a very competitive squad, if you look at some of the players in the Stag Elite League such as Hubert Pedro and Jahall Greaves, they have been doing very well and they now have a chance to represent Guyana.”
Among some of the players who will be representing Guyana for the first time is Ishankie Charles, whose younger sister Otesha Charles plays for the Guyana Lady Jaguars. Charles is a Guyanese born player who resides in England; he expressed his gratitude towards being included in the National Squad for the International Friendly.
“I’m absolutely proud to be given the chance to represent the country.” he said.
The session concluded with coach Shabazz giving a motivational speech and the players completing minor stretches to relax the muscles.
Training will continue today at the National Stadium, Providence with the morning session from 9:00 to 10:45 hrs and the afternoon session from 17:30 to 19:15 hrs.
