The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) has had a successful run in its 2019/2020 season. And now, while many players are spending the off-season focusing on how to improve on their game in 2020, others are pushing literally beyond their limits so they can realise the fruits of their labour.
One such person is cricketing all-rounder Akeem Redman of the Transport Sports Club (TSC).
There are 20 matches left to be played in the NBS 2nd Division 40-Over competition, and as things stand, the GCC are leading and the MSC are in second. In Zone B, the DCC are currently leading and the TSC are in second position.
Numerous players will no doubt be looking to compensate for chances lost last year.
Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, Redman was asked about his achievements in 2019, and this is how he responded: “For 2019, I did not perform so well with the bat, but nevertheless my bowling and fielding were on top. 2019 was a tough year for me. There were many ups and downs, thus I was unable to focus on my batting, but I pressed on and managed to take some key wickets.
“Bowling-wise, I bagged 2-27 against DCC; 2-28 against Sophia, which meant a lot to me; and thus far I have bagged 7 wickets, and I’m looking forward to taking more.
“I bat at number 6, so I will have to make the most of the opportunities in 2020 when given the chance to bat. I haven’t given myself any target in terms of what I want to attain in bat-and-ball, as my main focus is to take the team over the line and lift the trophy for the 40 overs (competition).”
Redman also said: “The First Division season didn’t go so well for me this year; but, come next year, I’m going to work extremely hard for my goals that I have set for that division.”
