Having had a successful 2017-2018 season in the New Building Society (NBS) 40-over Second-Division tournament and being awarded one of the best fielders in the tournament, Akeem Redman is expecting that his 2018/2019 season will be fruitful as well, since he has been contracted with BIA Sports Agency in Trinidad.
Speaking with Guyana Times Sport, the 21-year-old all-rounder from Transport Sports Club, a right-hander that bowls medium pace, stated that he was looking forward to taking a next step in his career.
Redman further went on to state his motivation for playing comes from his mom, Onika Jordan, who always encouraged him to reach for the highest heights and his brother who also played for Transport, wicketkeeper Devon Allen, who basically coaches.
In this year’s NBS Tournament, Redman recently took six wickets in two games, which included his first-ever hat-trick.
When asked why his form has improved so drastically, Redman said, “I’ve been doing a lot of work internally and externally when it comes to training, especially on my fitness. I’m looking to be selected in one of the teams for the three-day franchise, but, nevertheless, I’ll keep working to achieve bigger goals.”
Redman went on to express heartfelt thanks to Shaun Massiah and Kevin Ross, who were responsible for helping him to land a contract with BIA Sports Agency which will see him be selected for Evergreen Sports Club in the 2019 season.
“To land the contract I had to send my stats to someone and the person who is really and truly behind it and who is pushing for me to progress is Travis Blyden. He is doing most of the work behind the scenes for me, but I would like to point out that I am not the only one he is doing it for.”
Redman will continue to train and focus on his game as he aims to be selected for the Evergreen Sports Club for the 2019 season. (Timothy Jaikarran)
