Reflections of stand-out performances in GCB Senior Female Inter-county

– Females played in finesse during inter-county tournament

The recently concluded GCB Female inter-county tournaments saw high-quality performances from the best female cricketers in Guyana. It was a record breaking event that saw the highest individual female score, the highest team total, and the largest margin of victory and among other spectacular feats achieved.
The ladies from the ancient county won the double winning both T20 and 50-over formats. With the first round of the 50 over format washed out due to rain each teams played two matches. In the second round matches Demerara and Berbice registered wins in their respective fixtures.

Thompson who scored 183 runs in the two matches, with a top knock of 164 against Essequibo at Lusignan. That brilliant innings was the highest individual score at this level.
West Indies Women’s selectee, Shabika Gajnabi is arguably the brightest young prospect in the Caribbean. In the 50-over matches she finished the as the second leading run scorer with 165 runs, scoring a brilliant 160 against Essequibo. Grimmond, Cherry An Fraser, and Mandy Mangru looked established with the bat during the 50-over format.
In the bowling department top performances in the 50-over format came from Mandy Mangru who grabbed the best bowling figure with her off-spin; she claimed 7-18 against Essequibo. West Indian and Berbician duo, Tremayne Smartt and Erva Giddings had five wicket hauls in the 50-over format.
Smartt had 5-9 against the Select U-19 while Giddings had 5-13 against Demerara. The most economical bowling came from Demerara’s Kaysie Schultz who captured 5-2 in seven overs against Essequibo.
In the T20 format, stand-out performances came from Plaffiana Millington who won the player of the match award in her round 1 match against Select U-19, picking up 2-13. Demerara’s Lashuna Toussaint had a fair performance with bat in hand scoring 40 in Demerara’s first round in the T20 against Essequibo.

first match and copping the player of the match performance against Essequibo; with figures of 3-18. Mandy Mangru was the other star performer in round 2 for Select U-19 against Demerara. She had 3-14 and scoring 35 runs opening the batting, playing against a strong Demerara team.
In the third and final round of the T20 format, Shabika Gajnabi produced another player of the match performance when she blazed away with 41, ending her 2019 inter-county campaign on a high, leading the Select U-19 to two wins in as many matches in the T20 format.
The other fixture where Berbice defeated Demerara to complete the double saw Erva Giddings continuing her impressive bowling snaring 3-9 earning her a player of the match performance. Sheneta Grimmond was also a stand-out performer in the final round, stroking a shot-filled unbeaten 31.
