This forms part of the ongoing nationwide rollout to strengthen solid waste management systems. The NDCs benefiting from this distribution are Soesdyke/Te Huis Te Coverden; Caledonia/Good Success; Golden Grove/Diamond Place; Herstelling/Little Diamond; Mocha/Arcadia; Mon Repos/La Reconnaissance; Buxton/Foulis; Better Hope/La Bonne Intention; Industry/Plaisance; and Beterverwagting/Triumph.
Subject Minister Priya Manickchand emphasised that the rollout remains ongoing. “This is not the end of the distribution of garbage trucks. More trucks are expected in May [and] June.”

She further underscored the need for improved sanitation standards, noting that communities should no longer have schools, health centres, or streets with overflowing bins.
Region Four Vice Chairman Deoraj Nauth noted that the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) will ensure that the trucks are utilised effectively. He urged collaboration and stated that the RDC will support NDCs where necessary so that residents can benefit from a cleaner, healthier environment, supported by regular waste collection.
Also in attendance was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration) of the Local Government and Regional Development Ministry, Dr Josh Kanhai, and several representatives from the receiving NDCs.
To date, the Government has handed over two similar trucks to Port Kaituma and Mabaruma in Region One; 10 to Region Two; 14 to Region Three; 10 to Region Four; and 22 to Region Six, with 19 allocated to NDCs and three to municipalities.
Region Nine has since received two trucks – one for an NDC and one for a municipality – while Region Eight now has one truck for the township of Mahdia, and Region 10 has one for the township of Linden.
This brings the distribution to 59 NDCs and seven municipalities equipped with garbage compactor trucks. The initiative forms part of the Government’s broader commitment to maintaining cleaner, healthier communities and ensuring that development is reflected in the everyday lives of citizens across Guyana.
