Reg 9 miner fined, jailed for illegal possession of guns

On the day after he was arrested with two illegal firearms at Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, Region Nine, 42-year-old Gerald Isaacs was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined $100,000 on two counts of possession of a firearm without a licence.

Police stated that last Sunday, ranks from the Karasabai Police Station responded to a report regarding an alleged simple larceny that reportedly occurred on Friday, December 19, at Karasabai Village.
However, as part of the investigation, police ranks proceeded to a residence at Jawarie Village, where a search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of one .36-gauge shotgun and one 20-gauge shotgun in a bedroom area.
As such, Isaacs was arrested and escorted, along with the firearms, to the Lethem Police Station.
Meanwhile, Isaacs appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the two counts of possession of a firearm without a licence were read to him.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $50,000 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on each count. The sentence will run concurrently.
