The day’s activities begin with the masters final between Regal Masters and Wellman Masters at 10:30h which will be followed by the open final between Regal All Stars and Speed Boat Sports Club.
On their way to the final, Regal defeated Herstelling Rangers while Speed Boat powered away from Ariel Xi last Sunday right at DCC. The last time Regal All Stars and Speed Boat played a final at DCC, the latter prevailed in a thrilling encounter to take the Guyana Softball Cup six title. On that occasion, Wazeer Hussain and Travis Drakes put on 73 runs to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat after they were reduced to 100/5 in the 11th over chasing 172 made by Regal All Stars in their 20 overs. While in the Wolf Challenge cup, Regal All Stars were victorious by 35 runs in a high scoring match. Patrick Rooplall made 55 while Pritvinath Motielall was impressive with the ball claiming 4-23.
Additionally, lots will be expected of Sarfraz Esau, Richard Latif and Fazal Rafeek to give Regal the push for another victory. The Speed Boat hopes will rest on the shoulders of the dangerous Lennox “Assassin” Marks, Shazim Hussein and Beepaul Bandoo with the bat and Kishore Smith with the ball.
In the exciting masters category, Wellman Masters who defeated Ariel Masters in the semifinal will start as the underdogs but will be no pushovers since they have played excellent cricket so far. The last time they played in a final against Regal Masters, they lost by six wickets in a one-sided affair. David Harper took three wickets while Raymond Harper and Saheed Mohammed claimed two each to put the skids on Wellman Masters before the Regal Masters knocked off the runs easily. If Regal Masters should go on to win, they will need brilliance from Eric Thomas, Mahesh Chunilall and Mahenda Hardyal. While, Mike “Shane Warne” Singh, Greg de Franca, Latchman Kallicharran, Wayne Jones and Nandram Samlall will be looking to continue their good run for Wellman.
The winning team in each category will get $100,000 and a trophy while the losing finalists will get $25,000 each. The player of the match in each final will get a trophy.
