Region 1 miner dies after suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea

…no COVID-19 test done – Police

A 46-year-old gold miner is now dead after he complained of not feeling well while vomiting and suffering from diarrhoea at his workplace located in Hymacururu Backdam, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini).
Dead is Roy Conyers, who resided at Canal Bank, Port Kaituma, North West District.
The man reportedly died around 15:00h on Thursday at the Port Kaituma District Hospital. Police also revealed that no COVID-19 test was conducted on the man’s body.
Reports are that Conyers was employed by a male who operates a six-inch land dredge. Three days before his death, he began complaining of feeling unwell. According to Police reports, the man had been suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting.
However, on Wednesday, Conyers’ employer told lawmen that he called the now dead man’s reputed wife and notified her that her spouse was unwell.
On Thursday at about 06:00h, a speedboat was chartered to transport Conyers from the Backdam and he was subsequently taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital.
He reportedly arrived there around 15:00h but it was too late. He subsequently died. The body was examined by the police for marks of violence but none was seen.
Conyers’ body was then taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital Mortuary where it presently awaits a post-mortem examination (PME).
Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
