Region 10 records 38.7% drop in crime – Commander

…21.4% decline in traffic offences

Regional Police Division 10 has recorded a 38.7 per cent decrease in overall crime-related matters and a 21.4 per cent reduction in traffic-related matters when compared with the corresponding period last year.
The figures were disclosed by Commander of Regional Police Division 10, Senior Superintendent of Police John Barker, who said the division has maintained its focus on community policing and engagement.

Barker, in a video update posted by the Home Affairs Ministry on its social media page, said Police ranks have continued to conduct community meetings and outreach activities while collaborating with residents and other members of society to address issues affecting communities.
He said the division also intensified its road safety efforts with the reopening of schools, including the painting of road signs and educating both children and adults about the rules governing road use.
“We also continue to collaborate with members of the society,” Barker said, adding that the division recently focused on road safety education as part of preparations for the reopening of schools.
The Commander also credited increased resources allocated to the Guyana Police Force in Region 10 for strengthening the division’s operational capacity.
According to Barker, the division has received additional material resources and manpower, including vehicles that have improved its ability to respond to incidents.
“Our presence in the communities is felt because of the resources allotted to us, particularly patrol vehicles and the ranks on the road,” he said.
Barker said the availability of vehicles has placed the division in a better position to respond when the need arises.
He also pointed to improvements in Police infrastructure across the region, noting that several Police buildings have been modernised or newly constructed to support policing operations.
“Most of our buildings in Region 10 are up to date in terms of the condition and newly constructed,” Barker said.
He disclosed that several Police outposts and stations are still under construction and are expected to be completed soon.
According to Barker, the completed facilities will provide improved working conditions for Police ranks while also creating a more suitable environment for members of the public who visit Police Stations to report matters.
He said the infrastructure improvements are intended to ensure that both Police officers and members of the public can access and use the facilities in a comfortable and conducive environment.
