― want money for Christmas
Region Two coalition Councillor Julian Cummings has expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which payment vouchers are being processed by the Region Two Administration. Cummings at the last Regional Democratic Council (RDC) statutory meeting for 2016 vented his frustration, stating workers, particularly from Charity, are still owed for cleaning the road parapets.

Speaking to fellow councillors, Cummings pointed out that Christmas will be bleak this year for most persons, arguing that they have executed works for the Regional Administration and those payments are still to be made. He told the councillors that scores of workers who laboured tirelessly to clear the road shoulders within the Charity/Urasara NDC are still to be paid and this is affecting their livelihood.
Cummings added that the works were completed satisfactorily some three months ago yet money cannot be made available to those workers.
“Christmas everyone want money, the people them already done the work, pay them. What is the issue?” he said.
He expressed disappointment over the manner in which RDC Clerk, Rupert Hopkinson, is processing vouchers.
During that discussion Region Two Chairman Devanand Ramdatt requested a meeting with the workers. He however questioned who hired the workers and the rates they were working for. He also questioned where the allocations to pay the workers will come from.
Ramdatt noted that if the work is a contracted one, then it should have passed through the Regional Tender Board.
Naithram, another coalition councillor explained too that the trench cleaners are still to be paid for works completed.
The Clerk of the RDC was unavailable at the time to give a comment on why the vouchers were not processed in a timely manner.
