Deputy Commander of G Division (Essequibo Coast/Islands) Mahendra Siwnarine assured residents, the business community and neighbouring Islands in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) that security will be the top priority for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) during the upcoming Christmas period. Siwnarine was at the time giving a presentation on behalf of Divisional Commander Khali Pareshram who was absent.
Addressing ranks, representatives from the Region Two Administration,
Neighbourhood Democratic Councillors (NDC) and the business community during the unveiling of the Division’s Christmas plans, Siwnarine assured that it is the Force’s intention to minimise the activities of criminal elements, thereby ensuring safer neighbourhoods.
The deputy Commander stated: “We need to work together to reduce traffic congestion, reduce accidents, create a crime-free environment and foster a high degree of public confidence.”
He reminded that during the season, as is customary, there is usually a high influx of visitors to Guyana from overseas; he assured that visitors to the Region will also be well protected.
Residents can also feel safe when conducting their shopping since there will be an increase of foot, mobile and marine patrol, road blocks and raids, heightened vigilance and intelligence gathering, the Deputy Commander outlined.
There will also be increased monitoring at all ports within the division. Closer collaboration will be also be fostered with D (West Demerara and East Bank Essequibo) and F (Lethem and other Interior Locations) Divisions as the season approaches.
Additionally, Ranks will be dispatched to all the banks and Post Offices to ensure tighter security; foot patrols will also be deployed at strategic areas such as Charity, Suddie, Anna Regina, and Supenaam.
Speaking of measures to be implemented in the Traffic Division, Inspector Arunanauth Ramnauth said that ranks will work towards a reduction of traffic congestion and road accidents by encouraging good road safety habits. There will also be a rigid traffic enforcement and education campaign.
Officer in charge of crime Shivram Murugaya affirmed that the CID will effectively manage the Division using necessary strategies to keep the entire community safe.
