The township of Anna Regina came alive on Saturday evening as Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Regional Administration in collaboration with the region’s Tourism Association illuminate a 15-foot Christmas tree.
This is the fourth year of the event but for the first time the historical Anna Regina High Bridge was illuminated.
The event, which was held at Anna Regina’s Independence Park, attracted hundreds of residents who were entertained by melodious Christmas carols, skillful dances, poems and other special items.
Speaking at the event, Regional Chairperson, Vilma De Silva reminded the audience that the birth of Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated during this season.
Meanwhile, Regional Executive Officer, Susan Saywack said that the season is all about giving and spreading cheers. Noting that Guyana is a multi-culture society, she said she admires the way persons socialise during the festive season.
The Christmas tree was switched on after REO Susaan Saywack, Regional Chairperson Vilma De Dilva and Prime Minister Representative, Arnold Adams who played the role of Santa Clause.
