Region 2 to see massive development with $6.1B budgetary allocation

Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) will continue its transformational projects in order to benefit residents in 2022 with the approval of the $6.1 billion regional budget. This is according to the Regional Chairperson, Vilma De Silva during a recent statutory meeting held at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) boardroom.

De Silva, while addressing councillors at Anna Regina, said, “Budget 2022 is fourteen per cent larger than Budget 2021 that will be used wisely for transformational projects.”

She added that in 2021, the region received a total of $5,356,075,00 whereas for Budget 2022, $6,101,643,000 was approved.
According to the regional Chairperson, the approval will pave the way for massive development in health, education, tourism, and other sectors in the region.
“I am grateful that fourteen per cent more fund that was approved for the region compared to last year…with the approval transformational projects will be done. We as the regional officials will ensure that every Essequibians are comfortable where they are especially when it comes to infrastructure works, health, and education,” De Silva said.
She added that the capital work for the region that will be realised from the approval are rehabilitation of State House Annex, motor grader, a front end loader; construction of a reinforced concrete bridge at Onderneeming; upgrading of David James Street, Charity; upgrading of Damon Street, Dartmouth; upgrading of Second Cross Street, Anna Regina Housing Scheme; upgrading of Playground Street, Suddie Housing Scheme; extension of Johanna Cecilia Secondary; the procurement of an ambulance, portable ultrasound machine and the provision of an electrical upgrade at Suddie Public Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Regional Executive Officer, Susana Saywack said that 17 projects that have to be completed in Pomeroon to Supenaam fall under the Regional Tender Board. These projects include construction of the Tail Wall at Little Alliance, construction of regulators at Annandale, Hampton Court, construction of revetment at Taymonth Manor, La Union, and Fairfield, and also construction of drainage structure at Dry Shore.
She also noted that several access dams will be upgraded at Devonshire Castle and Queenstown. However, there will also be an extension at Charity Nursery, Huis’t Dieren, the construction of a walkway at Charity Dormitory, construction of a boathouse at Supenaam for the region’s water ambulance and the construction of a septic tank will be done at Aurora Secondary. There will also be maintenance works at various health centres, hostels, and hospitals.
Saywack said that the region is upgrading at a fast pace and with the 2022 budget, Essequibians will experience positive changes within their communities. (G14)
