Region 2 Vice Chairman dissatisfied over slow pace of projects

…say contractors not working according to bill of quantity

Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Vice Chairperson Nandranie Coonjah is dissatisfied with what she described as the “snail’s pace” at which contractors are working on projects within the region.
Coonjah during an interview with Guyana Times said she is disappointed with the minimum amount of work qualified contractors are doing and explained that often they are not honouring the deadlines specified in their contracts. This attitude, she said, is causing a negative effect on the region’s economy since it is hampering development.
Coonjah, who serve as the Chairperson for the Works Committee within the region said at present, staff at the Charity Oscar Joseph and Suddie hospitals are inconvenienced since works at those medical facilities are delayed.
She added that despite several interventions from the regional administration, the contractor is still behind schedule. This, she said, is creating extra burdens to both staff at the medical institutions as well as residents.
Another project she is concerned about is the Golden Fleece bridge. That project, she explained, was awarded since May 2017, and to date, it has not been completed.
