Region 3 statutory meeting disrupted

….as APNU/AFC Councillors walk out

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) monthly statutory meeting was late last week halted after councillors of A Partnership for National Unity/ Alliance for Change (APNU/AFC) walked out.
Regional Chairman Julius Faerber, when contacted, confirmed that the walkout did occurred, adding that one Councillor decided to walk out of the meeting following claims that Councillors of the Opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) were absent from a workshop recently held in the region.
Guyana Times understands that the Councillor, Kathleen Armstrong, after the meeting was convened, reportedly rose and accused the PPP/C Councillors of disregarding the workshop, stating that she would be boycotting the statutory meeting.

However, the Regional Executive Officer (REO), Dennis Jaikaran and several other Government Officer were reportedly beckoned and they all followed suit.
When contacted for a comment on the allegations, Jaikaran did not answer questions saying that he was seeking media attention.
The Chairman revealed that following the “walk out”, there was a quorum as to the way forward, with Opposition Councillors continuing discussions as per normal.
Faerber called the walk out a gross disrespect for the affairs of the region and called for the public to be made aware of what is currently happening in the

regional administration.
The REO and Chairman have been at loggerheads over a number of issues in the region.
The Chairman claims that he is being kept out of the loop on affairs of the region, while Jaikaran maintains that the Chairman is undermining his authority.
