The Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) administration has completed its work programme for 2019.
This was according to Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO) Sherwin Wellington while addressing the Region Five Regional Democratic Council (RDC) on Friday.
He told the gathering that the administration was given $436,160,000 under its current work programme for 2019.
“To date we would have expended those funds. But on the capital side even though we would have expended all of our money, with the savings that we got, we were able to purchase additional things which we had put in the budget and were not approved in all five programme hands. We would have spent all of our allocations on the current budget. We’ve just a few more vouchers to add in, so all the money we would have gotten from the Parliament, we would have spent.”
Region Five has been plagued with the RDC not being able to have successful meetings ever since January 2016. In fact, over the past year, the Council has not been able to have any fruitful discussion.
Wellington, who was at the time serving as the Clerk of the RDC, acknowledged that the lack of meetings has had a negative impact on the Region.
He took the opportunity to call on Councillors to unite for the betterment of the Region.
“When you sit here, you sit as a council putting aside party affiliation. So, as a council, you will be able to make decisions that will represent all and that would benefit everyone. So, from 2020, let us all work together and we will get progress when we work together,” the DREO told the RDC.
Meanwhile, Wellington said that funds from other Ministries which were pumped into the Region have also been exhausted.
